Why does Rachel Moir, a twenty-year-old, full-time student and part-time employee, make time in her busy schedule to water a tree at Veterans Park? In Rachel’s words, “My friends laugh at me when I tell them that I adopted a tree, but I believe that everyone should adopt a tree, meaning that everyone should do something to help the environment.”
Rachel, who has lived in Broomall since she entered 4th grade at Loomis Elementary School, is a graduate of Marple Newtown High School and presently a student at Venus Beauty Academy. She expects to receive her diploma in Cosmetology in July, 2012. She also works two part-time jobs, one in a beauty salon and the other at a retail store in the mall.
Three times a week, Rachel runs at Veterans Park because she loves being outdoors and exercise helps her to keep her weight under control. When she was asked if she would adopt a tree, she didn’t hesitate to say yes. “I make it part of my running routine. On each lap around the track, I fill a gallon jug with water for my tree. It’s easy to do.” Rachel also makes it a habit to pick up trash she sees lying around in the park. “It would make a big difference if everyone would do just a little bit to make the environment better.”
